Choices
February 4
$55This session explores the critical role of choice in supporting autonomy and dignity, particularly for people with disabilities. Participants will reflect on what is required to make a choice, how it feels to have choice versus being directed, and whether developing independent skills conflicts with making choices. The session will also delve into key terms like habilitation, control, and dignity, exploring how they interconnect, where they may conflict, and their relevance to disability support. Additionally, we’ll discuss the balance between dignity of risk and duty of care, including historical and current arguments that are used for and against allowing people with disabilities to make their own choices.
